Parkinson Aquatic Centre
Brisbane City Council undertook this project to deliver a brand-new aquatic centre located in Parkinson to meet the demands of the growing local population as part of the Lord Mayor’s 2012 election commitment. It was the first time in Council’s history that an aquatic centre has been delivered via a Private Public Partnership.
Services provided included Project Scheduling and Independent Verification during the Construction phase which included a 50 metre heated eight-lane outdoor pool with accessible ramp, 18 metre heated indoor leisure pool with accessible ramp, onsite car parking, change rooms with showers and toilets, including family friendly and accessible change facilities, parent’s observation room and staff rooms, storage areas, and plant room.
The Challenges
Ensuring the build was delivered within the timeframe and budget constraints whilst the quality remained high as a long term solution for the community. Careful consideration was given to public safety, staff levels and ongoing maintenance.
The Solutions
A unique collection of construction technologies were used including the Spantech 370 series curved roof and suspended flooring systems which are of a high quality and resilience level to extend the life of the facility.
The Outcomes
By working collaboratively with all stakeholders, the project was delivered successfully and cost effectively. The centre greatly benefits all key stakeholders particularly Brisbane Council and the general public.
