WSRC Mechanical Works

We are proud to announce our engagement by Museums of History NSW (MHNSW) to deliver the critical upgrade to their HVAC systems at the Western Sydney Record Centre (WSRC) in Kingswood.

Established in December 2022, Museums of History NSW brings together the historic houses, museums and collections previously in the care of Sydney Living Museums with the vast archives and records in the NSW State Archives Collection. The State Archives Collection comprise some of the most significant historical sites and material in the country.

The Western Sydney Record Centre forms part of the State Archive Collection. It comprises multiple buildings that are interlinked and have been constructed in stages over several decades. MHNSW have identified a critical need to upgrade aged mechanical plants serving building Stages 5 and 6, which forms the project scope of works.

Unlike a system that manages a space occupied by humans or IT, these storage areas require strict humidity control to prevent mould and damage to sensitive artifacts (mostly paperwork). These requirements are set out in the NSW Government Standard on the Physical Storage of State Records (Standard 14) which is the guiding document for the mechanical plant design.

Incorporated into the scope of works will also be a comprehensive review of the impact from climate change with rising temperatures in order to future proof the mechanical system for the next 15-20 years.

Empire is delighted to be providing Project Management services for this important scope of works.
